We empower mental health professionals, educators, and responders with evidence-based traumatology programs recognized globally.

What is TIPS, and what makes it unique?

Traumatology Institute & Psychological Services, Philippines (TIPS) is theย accredited training siteย of theย Green Cross Academy of Traumatology (GCAT), USA, in the Philippines and the first in Asia. It provides internationally recognized workshops and certification programs in traumatology for professionals, educators, and responders who want to strengthen their trauma-informed practice.

What training programs does TIPS offer?

TIPS offers five progressive certification workshops. These programs are designed to build trauma response competencies across various professional levels and fields:

Master Traumatologist Certification (Level 5)

Clinical Traumatologist Certification (Level 4)

Field Traumatologist Certification (Level 3)

Compassion Fatigue Practitioner Certification (Level 2)

Compassion Fatigue Educator Certification (Level 1)

Who can enroll in the training programs?

Anyone interested in trauma recovery, mental health, or humanitarian work is welcome to join, provided they have at least a Bachelor’s degree for Levels 1 to 3 and are currently pursuing their Master’s degree for Levels 4 to 5, in any allied medical or behavioral science field. However, Clinical and Master Traumatologist Certifications are mostly reserved for those in the Mental health field with a license, education (master’s), and work in psychology, counseling, or a related background.

Does TIPS issue the official GCAT certification?

TIPS is accredited to facilitate the training/workshop of GCAT, yet you need to be a member and send your credentials and training certificates to Green Cross Academy of Traumatology, VA, USA, for you to be officially certified. The Green Cross Academy of Traumatology, VA, USA, has the only authority to give the TRAUMATOLOGIST CERTIFICATIONS.

How do I start my journey toward becoming a certified traumatologist?

You can begin by enrolling in any of the TIPS Courses/training programs or other Training sites affiliated with GCAT before signing up for their membership. If you choose to just attend the trainings offered at TIPS, you may do so even without being a member of GCAT. Yet, please be reminded that GCAT has the authority to Grant The Traumatologist Certification; TIPS Only Provides the Training. You won’t be a Certified Traumatologist without signing up for the membership and submitting your credential to GCAT.
Visit greencross.org for the full list of requirements and certification pathways recognized by GCAT.

Once I have completed a course or specific training and/or obtained certification from GCAT, am I legally authorized to practice psychotherapy and/or counseling?

The practice of psychology and guidance and counseling in the Philippines is strictly regulated under Republic Act No. 10029 and Republic Act No. 9258, both of which require valid professional licensure. Psychological assessment, psychological intervention, the development and implementation of psychological programs, and guidance and counseling are protected professional acts that may only be lawfully performed by duly licensed psychologists or registered guidance counselors.

Certifications or trainings in psychological approaches, modalities, or techniques do not confer legal authority to practice and are neither a substitute for nor equivalent to licensure. Any individual who engages in psychological or counseling practice without the appropriate licenseโ€”regardless of the number of certificates obtainedโ€”is in violation of existing laws and ethical standards and may be subject to legal and professional sanctions.

Certification is not equivalent to licensure, and no certification may supersede or override the laws of the Philippines. The Traumatology Institute and Psychological Services (TIPS) functions solely as an accredited training site of the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology (GCAT), USA, and provides educational training only. Certification, where applicable, is a separate function administered by GCAT and does not authorize independent professional practice in the Philippines.

All practitioners are required to comply fully with the regulatory and legal frameworks governing psychology, counseling, and psychotherapy in the Philippines.
